Ilker Demirkol is Ramon y Cajal Research Professor in Telematics Engineering at Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, where he works on wireless networks, including wireless mesh, ad hoc and sensor networks, along with wake-up radio systems. His research targets communication protocol development for aforementioned networks, along with performance evaluation and optimization of such systems.

Demirkol received his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Engineering from the Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey. Over the years, he has also worked in a number of research laboratories and corporations, including University of Rochester, Baan Business Systems. He has held several positions both in academia and industry, such as Network Engineer, System and Database consultant, Lecturer. Demirkol is the recipient of the 2010 Best Mentor Award from Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of University of Rochester.
